ALCAZAR : Crying At The Discoteque

Aaah the mighty Swede-pop of Alcazar. Though the band may have gone through a few line-up changes over the years (first a three piece, then four, then a three piece again with a different laydee), it was with this hit that the band was most fondly remembered here in Australia. And though it peaked inside the top 20 (obviously people were gagging for a bit of pop), their cover of The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' didn't fare quite as well, though it still hit the top 40. But back to 'Crying At The Discoteque' - a more perfect pop song you couldn't ask for, what with blindingly good chorus, perfect Swedish pop sensibilities, great harmonies and the video. Animal-headed people dancing around on the surface of some strange planet before they're interrupted by three Alfoil-clad popstars, spruiking their pop wares. It soon becomes clear that we've been duped - that it's indeed not a foreign planet and that it is in fact a STUDIO (can you believe it). There's some disco dancing, a cameo by producer and now BWO member Alexander Bard, and some of the tightest silver hotpants we ever did see.
