AMERIE : Why R U

Glamorous American R&B singer Amerie returns with the first single from her forthcoming album 'In Love And War'. 'Why R U' also marks her first single with new record label Island Def Jam after the singer parted ways with former label Columbia following her third album 'Because I Love It' in 2007. There is simply no denying the singer's appeal - she's decidedly sexy, the track possesses a catchy old school beat (albeit with an oh-so-now feel) and the clip is highly stylish and totally polished. No word on an Aussie release for this just yet, but 'til it is, we can make do with this little taster. Nice stuff.

Amerie might just be the only R&B princess left in the game that's still playing with 'old-school R&B/hip hop' beats. Herself and LeToya Luckett, perhaps...

It's refreshing to see an artist who's sticking to the sound that's served her well... rather than pilfering Rihanna's material. Amerie will always be synonymous with the horn-laden kinda neo-funk sound. Good on her! PS - what happened to Brandy's "Human" album? Great inspirational stuff on there... perhaps too beige for the in crowd? And too pop for the Mary J. Blige listeners?
