We've been asked by a number of readers during the past few weeks where they can now find physical CD singles within Australia, now that JB Hifi has stopped stocking the format in their stores. So we've decided to begin this post - to let people know where they can still buy the humble CD single throughout Australia. If you know of a music store in your area that stocks a good selection of CD singles or if you manage a music store yourself and support the format, comment below and we'll add the store name to the list that follows! Simple!
* A JB Hifi employee has commented below that punters can still order the CD singles through any of their stores.
* Kmart announced in February 2010 that they were stopping stocking CD singles in their stores. We've now removed them from any listings below.

K-Mart and some Sanity stores are still stocking singles in South Australia.
Sanity at Centro Bankstown (NSW) still stock them.
Aftershock Records - Orange
Stop N Rock - Bathurst
I went to Music Front the other day, and they were stocking the latest singles [I bought Paparazzi :3 not that you needed to know...].
Awesome, team 'singles'!
Michael, do you know which Sanity/Kmart stores? Suburbs would be great if possible?
And Jose, which Music Front store?
Thanks for the comments, all updated on the site now!
auspOp
kmart at hurstville (NSW) still stock them but they only ocassionally place new releases ON the release date.
it would be nice to add a quicklink to the CD SINGLE STOCKLIST on the side so we could referr to easier instead of scrolling or searching
Absolutely - SOOO gonna be doing a quicklink in the sidebar!
Sorry, umm, Wetherill Park ;)
Thanks Jose.
The Bigwentertainment.com.au website sells cd singles online.
Kmart Broadway
Kmart Burwood are both stocking latest release singles :)!
Kmart Lake Haven in NSW sells them. We don't get as many now but still have a top 20 in my store.
kmart broadway and burwood are in nsw btw sorry for not mentioning before.
The HMV in the Queen Street Mall, Brisbane sells CD singles - they had heaps of stock went I went in there, even if they are a bit expensive.
kmart figtree and leading edge in figtree both do...pretty sure that the rock factory in wollongong does as well
K-Mart Helensvale (QLD) stocks them, although new releases are a bit hit and miss (e.g. they had "Paparazzi" last week, but not "I Gotta Feeling".
Re: SA stores
*Kmart in Tea Tree Plaza, Ingle Farm & Munno Para
*Sanity in Elizabeth sell a select few.
Leading Edge Music in Parkes still stocks a great range of CD singles thankfully.
SA: Kmart Tea Tree Plaza, Munno Para, West Lakes and Pt Adelaide stock a good range of singles.
I've used Chaos recently too.
And I have used http://www.grooves-inc.com/ for Import singles for big hits that have not had a physical release in Australia.
I hate JB for deleting singles! They stocked everything at a good price :(
Hello Auspop,
JB Hi Fi in Mt.Druiit still sell singles ad new ones like 'I Got A Feeling'. So do one of the stores in the city.
-Matt
JB's in Marion here in SA has no single section anymore. JB's in Rundle Mall hasn't had any new releases in almost a month.
@Matt did they have Lady Gaga too?
Orange: Kmart
Orange: Sanity (limited stock of major releases)
Mount Druitt at JB arent selling singles anymore but Kmart at Mount Druiit are. They are 5 dollars just like HMV.
We don't get HMV's in Adelaide :( Sanity sucks. KMART upped the price to $5. Hopefully they keep singles. I really hate JB's for deleting singles! They sell Vinyl yet delete singles!
@Scott no they didn't have Lady GaGa but they had BEP. But they aren't selling them anymore :(
Unfortunately HMV Australia, has been diminished...I know I was at the HMV Parramatta Store from almost opening to the closure....Sanity/Virgin (Brazin P/L) bought out HMV Australia in 2005, and have been closing down the HMV's since..my store closed April 2008...and i ensured THE SINGLE was profiled to maximum:)
Glad to see all the enthusiam of the CD SINGLE!! Well Done People!!
Long live the Single!
I went to Port Lincoln over the weekend In South Australia and i as really happy with there K-Mart Store it had a huge verity of singles more then any store i've seen for a while :)
In ACT,
These stores sell CD Singles:
The following K-Mart Stores - Tuggeranong and Belconnen
The Following Big W Stores -
Westfield Woden and Canberra Centre (aka Civic)
The Following Target Stores -
Tuggeranong and Canberra Centre (aka Civic)
The Following Music Shop -
Westfield Woden
PLEASE NOTE:If I find other stores that sell CD Singles, I'll post it! Also these stores put the CD Singles on the shelves around a week after they have been released, (except the Westfield Woden Music Shop)
Sunflower Music at Pacific Fair (Gold Coast) stocks CD singles. They tend to only stock one or two copies of each, though, but they do order fresh stock when they run out.
Another Gold Coast store! CC Music at Harbour Town - they stock a good range and the guy there today said that as long as the record companies continue to make them, they'll continue to stock them. I picked up Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian's latest singles for $1.99 each (their regular price is $5.99, though, which is a bit steep).
Sanity Hollywood Plaza in South Australia still stock some CD Singles. I managed to get my copy of Jessica Mauboy's 'Up/Down' from there for $2.99.
I work for JB hi-fi and we still do sell singles just not in store... grab one of us staff and we can order them in thou. if that makes sense... they are not removed from JB fully just no in the selves as most just sat around.
Thanks so much for letting us know, BabyBrit!
I'm sure there are a number of readers who'd be interested to know that news...

Why not have a small section through? It was really appalling of JB to delete singles. You stock records and heaps of imported crap you would not sell much of either. It really took JB down a notch in my book, when they deleted singles.
sorry the JB excuse is a bit sad, if i wanna go into a MUSIC STORE to buy a single, I WANT TO BUY IT not order it in and get a week, a month later, its not really justified... still I did try and the service was well appauling comes to mind..once bitten,,,,,
PLUS go visit www.hmv.co.uk for a huge variety of singles !!!
KMart @ Chermside has a decent variety still - as with all department stores they get them a few weeks late (or sometimes a few days early) and can't order specific titles.
I saw quite a few singles at K Mart, Victoria Gardens in Richmond in Melbourne.
Thought at $5 each, some only having 1 track on it - it's a disgrace they are charging so much.
I havent bought a cd single in months!
I have been going to JB Hi-Fi in Knox City, VIC, every week, still, since July 1st, and now they've just put all the 30 or so remaining singles (not that I knew what they were!) in clearance sale for $1.99. I just don't get why.
They used to have a large selection, but they just kept decreasing it.
And Kmart sells them for $5 (with heaps of stickers on it that really pisses me off coz you can't get them off properly!). Last CD single I bought was Paparazzi on 13/7. (I'm a huge Lady GaGa fan.) If they don't release Bad Romance on phys, I probably won't be getting one for another 3 months... if they totally stop soon I may never get one again.
SO depressing IMO.
Also, KMART @ Westfield Warrawong have singles in stock all the time.
All the Kmarts in my area still stock a variety of cd singles: Cranbourne, Fountain Gate, Brandon Park, Rowville, Frankston, Parkmore, Chadstone, Hastings and Rosebud VIC. But yeah like everyone is saying they are $5 and most singles these days only have the one track on them. I find myself getting music online or buying so fresh compilations. Its sucks though. The last single i bought was in June, so its been awhile!
I found out today that Sanity in Box Hill Centro (Melbourne) stocks some CD singles.
They had Up/Down, Last Day on Earth, Thinking of You, Wheels, Don't Stop Believin' and a few more for $1.99, and a lot for $4.99 including TiK ToK, Happy, Stone Cold Sober and more.
I work in the music department of a Perth KMart and we have a top 20 singles chart for $5 each. We also have a section for recent singles that have moved out of the top 20 or are new releases. But every few months or so the singles that arnt selling get taken down and shipped off...
Hey auspop!
I was in my local K-Mart shop and I just wanted to let you know that in Belmont, WA they still stock CD Singles.
Cause I saw Ke$ha's TiK ToK Single and all these new releases. :D
Woop! We finally have on for WA :D
What about in Bendigo...?
Kmart has stopped recieving new single releases and is currently in the process of removing all of them from shelves (stupid idea), according to the worker in one of their stores. (Who said to go to JB to get singles)
That's it then. It''s over. The death of physical singles. I hate iTunes! I'll just pirate FLAC files off albums, until they release lossless tracks now! So few people buy CD Singles now it was bound to happen :(
Guys - I went into Sanity the other day, and they said they were able to order in the Rock That Body, Give It Up To Me, Before the Worst and Talk You Down CD Singles for me... (not that I asked about others)
The guy also said about how sad it is that CDS are dying, but then he said Sanity is working with Sony Music to try to restore CDS, and will be soon bringing in $2 singles which will be available on the front counter... hopefully they'll bring something good out in $2 singles not crap aussie bands, but BUY THEM EVERYONE! that way we can help CDS return to life!!
CD singles have been a waste of money for years. 7", 8", 10" and 12" singles had a real purpose back in the day, and certainly drove the music industry for the better part of the 20th Century, but CDS over the last 5-10 years have been nothing but another way for record labels to suck a few extra bucks out of consumers. When the point was reached where any substantial cash flow from their sales dried up, so did the reason for labels to produce them. End of story.
Sanity - Fountain Gate (Vic)
Sanity - Bayside Frankston (Vic) has Sony BMG Singles
Jen's Utopian Music - Carrum Downs (Vic)
There's a CD store chain throughout country and coastal Victoria called Leading Edge...while on a trip away I went into this store to discover a large range of CD singles! It was amazing! Put them down!
Leading Edge in Pakenham especially has quite a bit, including most current singles and some old ones.
Also, Box Hill 'Sanity' in VIC closed down a few months ago (I just realised it was in your post).
Leading Edge Music, Wangaratta. VIC
Sanity - Mount Hutton
Sanity, Charlestown Square - they might stock some singles there.
HMV,Bratwhurst - may stock some as well.
Salamander Sound, Salamander Bay - they also stock singles, espesicaly the old ones!! They even Have a website! http://www.myspace.com/salsound
Cheers
Tuvak
I'm a current Sanity employee in SA and we have been told no Sanity stores within Australia will be stocking CD singles anymore. It is a national directive :)
Hey Anonymous,
Thanks for letting us know.
The auspOp team
I went to JB HiFi the other day, and they were stocking the latest singles [I bought Alpine's Zurich, not that you needed to know...]
