REVIEW : If You Know What's Good For Ya!

We must admit to being completely ignorant to the charms (and even the very existence) of Californian based electropop artist Woolfy before this album arrived with us, but now we know, we admit to falling a little under the spell. With an OFFICIAL MYSPACE page that's fast approaching 100,000 visits and more than 100,000 plays of the tracks contained therein, it's obvious the world is also slowly but surely waking up to Woolfy's wares.
Opening track on the 12 track long player is the disjointed driving pop of 'The Warehouse', with it's female vocal that's so laid back and ever so slightly out of tune, you don't know whether it's art or shite (or a little bit of both).
'Oh Missy' picks up the pace with a male vocal, a delicious slice of bongo, some disco beats and more than a little nod to Toni Basil's one and only hit 'Mickey'. 'That Lady' could've been plucked straight from the airwaves of the mid 1980s, 'Loa The Disco' builds into a frenzy of warm, mid-tempo Moroder-esque electronica and the opening of 'Looking Glass' reminds of that completely dated electronic on-hold music, before it moves into a cool '80s inspired pop domain.
'Hesitation' dabbles it's feet into the British punk pool, while 'Sonic Monday' (streaming on the MySpace page) reminds of UK electronica outfit Bent, with a pleasing beat.
'Two Far Gone' is dreamy, with it's heavily synthesized robotic introduction, simple, warm bass and ethereal vocals and 'Odyssey' blends a dash of funk with a cluster of chimes and soft male vocal.
Filled with musical diversity, electronic beeps and beats, there's plenty to like here once you've got past the slightly odd album opener. Nudging past the hour mark, 'If You Know What's Good For Ya' is pretty good value, pretty eclectic and a pretty good listen.
