The nominees for the 2009 ARIA Awards have been revealed this morning. And it's Jessica Mauboy and Empire Of The Sun who lead the nominations in this year's field. Jessica has nods in the fields of Best Female, Breakthrough Artist Single, Breakthrough Artist Album, Best Pop Release and Highest Selling Australian album, along with two entries in the Highest Selling Australian Single field with 'Burn' and 'Running Back'.Meanwhile, the boys from Empire Of The Sun have scored nominations in the fields of Album Of The Year, Single Of The Year, Highest Selling Australian Album, Highest Selling Australian Single, Best Group and Best Pop Release. Their album and singles are also nominated for gongs in the Producer Of The Year, Best Cover Art, Best Video and Engineer Of The Year categories.
We expect them to be taking home a number of awards on the night.
Sadly, there was no mention of Daniel Merriweather in the Best Urban Album category, though he is up for Best Male Artist, while Sarah Blasko has nods in the categories of Album Of The Year, Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release.
The pointy gongs will be handed out at the 2009 ARIA Awards, to be held at Sydney's Acer Arena on Thursday November 26. The ceremony will be telecast on the Nine Network.

Bertie Blackman only gets one nomination WTF in the words of Sue Sylvester "lady justice wept today" So many she could have been nominated for.
...carring over thou great to see Sarah Blasko,Ladyhawke,Lisa Mitchell and The Temper Trap getting nominated.
Jessica Mauboy - most successful Australian Idol ever. Now a 100% proven fact.
Jessica Mauboy being nominated for 4 industry voted Arias is a joke. The 3 sales ones I can understand, but she has no real talent. All that Sony pimping has worked a treat I guess. The most over promoted karoake artist in Australian music history who cannot even perform intune without a backing track anymore. Her performance on Hey Hey last night showed that. In the rare moments during the song she wasn't lip-syncing the notes were appalling. Twitter was alive with "what the" comments about her performance. Australia's very own Britney. And now she has managed to get more merit based ARIA nominations than AC/DC has had in their whole steller 36 year career. This is the first year they have ever been nominated. Jess gets 4 non sales related nominations and AC/DC gets 3. I can only hope that at the end of the night it will be AC/DC with 3 merit and one sales ARIA Award in their hands and Jess walks away with the only one she deserves. Highest selling single. I doubt this little Sony puppet will be around in 5 years time, let alone the amount of time AC/DC have been.
Jess is a baby (she just turned 20)! So she hits a few bum notes in live performances? She's finding her feet as a performer and building up her confidence. I doubt she would have made it second place on Australian Idol with no talent.
I'm not particularly a fan of her music, but I think it's great to see a young girl doing as well as she is. It's also nice to see a more "pop" sounding artist being celebrated at the ARIA Awards, which is usually quite snobby when it comes to fun pop music.

I adore Jessica Mauboy's music and loved her on Idol so am a little biased, but am impressed with the majority of her live performances - she has been flawless and is really gaining a stage presence. I often hear on on the radio here in Japan and her songs certainly hold there own against the majority of US songs on Japanese radio. She can certainly sing - as mentioned by Anon above she would not have succeeded on Idol without a voice. AND she writes a lot of her lyrics. I think she is incredibly talented, and Australia needs more young stars like her. Personal taste comes into it of course, but no one can deny her talent, I don't think.
Cheers

The bigger Jess gets, the more criticism she attracts. I never did like the colour green.
Lisa Mitchell oh please ,how and why is she nominated
jessica mauboy is just a money machine for her labels she lip sync's , has to use back tracks and when they turn off shes off tune i wouldnt be surprised if she doesnt write her own music shes just a corp money maker and people like that are ruining the industry she'll be finished by next yr
and another thing shes only famous cause little girls get ther parents to buy the cds cause there oblivious to the concequences of comericialism and are only looking for a catchy tune thats holo and soul-less with no meaning
