Reigning Australian Idol Wes Carr released his debut album 'The Way The World Looks' back in March this year, (almost) reaching the top of the ARIA albums chart. And now Sony Music has announced that a deluxe edition will be released just in time for Christmas. The new version of the album also includes a nine track bonus EP of (mostly) cover versions called 'Under The Influence'. Along with an acoustic version of Wes's most recent single 'Love Is An Animal', Wes gives his own take on classics like Fleetwood Mac's 'Go Your Own Way', The Beatles' 'Hey Bulldog' and Joe Jackson's 'Is She Really Going Out With Him?'. The repackaged edition is due to hit the stores on November 06.

It didn't quite get to the top of the charts. Peaked at #2 and left the top 100 without platinum certification. The first Idol winner's album to fail to achieve platinum, even though it had far more singles released from it than any other idol winner's album. That didn't even help as single three and single four failed to even peak inside the top 50 or to drag the album back into the Aria top 50 album chart. Strange that is also the first one to actually get a re release. Guy's 6 time platinum, Damien's 4 times platinum and Casey's 3 times platinum first albums were just left to die a natural death. Nothing like promoting the unpromotable. Sony are very good at that.
Good pick up, Anonymous...
Now rectified on the post...
Damien's "Winner's Journey" already came with a DVD and his Where We Land WAS repackaged with a Christmas EP. His current album includes a DVD. Anonymous clearly doesn't know what (s)he's talkin bout.
Very good point Anonymous!
Umm Anonymous, Natalie Gauci's album didn't make platinum and she won the grand final!
Matt check the Aria website accreditation's year by year. Natalie Guaci's album was most assuredly awarded platinum. Here is a copy and paste from the accreditations.
ARIA Charts - Accreditations - 2007 Albums
Natalie Gauci The Winner's Journey SBME PLATINUM
And Cameragurl I do know what I am talking about. Yes Damien had a dvd with all his idol performances. But that dvd was the actual release. It wasn't an extra attached to a recorded cd. And then in 2007 they sent Natalie into the studio to re record her idol performances and included a dvd of her talking about her idol experiences etc.
And yes Damien had a repackage with his 2nd album and now his 4th album has a special edition, but I was talking about the first album of idol winners, not subsequent ones. None of the other idol winners had any special things attached to help their sales though. They had to go it alone. The privilage of extra bonuses and special editions has only ever been given to the runner ups until Damien came along and now apparently Wes.
Guy Sebastian is about to release his 5th album. Once again without any special edition or bonuses attached. Good thing he sells without them, otherwise he might have joined the three dearly departed idol winners by now.
Anonymous....seriously get a life! All this talk about Charts and who did what and when is tedious!!! If Guy is doing so well, why do you go around the internet putting crap on every other Idol that walks this earth? this is a WES CARR review! Can't you read! Are you threatened by the other Idols? or perhaps they are better singers than Guy? oooh touched a nerve I bet! If you love Guy that much, play on his forum and promote him there! I'm sure he would prefer it if you did that rather than insult all his mates on every blog site you can find!.. Yes he is Mates with these artists that you insult!
Thank you Auspop for the heads up about this Lovely Christmas present from Wes Carr! I'm looking forward to it.
She just given out the facts for all the idol winners #1 album, it's interesting to read. No need to get hostile Anonymous#2.
Nah fair call Annonymous #2 looks like the same tool that goes around other idols you tubes throwing his or her facts and figures in everyone's faces and its always Guys! Whoever it is needs to get a life and leave Wes and other Idols alone.
Without disrespecting any other idols, I'd really to point out to the people that feel the need to disrespect Wes, that they might want to consider other less known facts before they do it.
Wes wanted to do this EP. These are some of his favourite songs. He has co-produced and mixed these songs himself. He has really broken them down and re-written them into something that is his own. And he has spent his spare nights in the studio recording them and mixing them AFTER sometimes having done 12-15 hours of publicity and gigs.
I can't speak for any other idols, but Sony work as hard for him and Wes does for them. And anyone who has seen him play live would know he is an incredible musician and a gem absolutely worth supporting.
This is going to be an amazing EP...and I commend him for recording it with such limited time on his hands and for being such a passionate and committed artist. I am glad that Sony have the foresight to see his potential and how amazing he is.
Anonymous 2 I was simply stating facts about all idol releases. Some are given a great deal of advantage in their releases, while others particularly some winners are left to go it alone with no extra bonuses. How an artist is promoted can directly affect their chances of a longlasting career. Ask Casey, Kate and Natalie. I am sure they would agree that Sony likes to play favourites. I agree with Stanley. You are one very hostile little pratt.
Anonymous#1, it is pretty one dimensional and ill-considered to say that Sony play favourites just because some of the previous winners of idol have been dropped from the label.
Sony-BMG is a business. They are out to make money. They look at their "products" from all different angles, not just initial sales on a first album. They would not have walked away and ceased the contracts with Kate, Casey or Natalie without good reason. And certainly not if they believed there was money to be made.
I don't know whether you dislike Wes or just have a bee in your bonnet because you know he is travelling along nicely and on his way to much bigger things...but how about you leave him alone and complain somewhere else about your issues with Sony. This isn't the place to try to drag him down with pointless chart facts just because you are bitter.
It seems a strange thing to repackage an album that was released only this year and wasn't particularly successful in Idol terms. It's usually an indication that if singles released off an album don't do well, that's pretty much it for the album.
Diehard fans will buy it but I think the majority of people who already possess the album, won't.
Sony will have their reasons for wasting money on this, but that doesn't mean it will be to Wes' benefit.
