PROGRESSED FOR OZ

In the inimitable words of Futurama's Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth... "Good news everyone!"
Universal Music has this afternoon confirmed that Take That's new expanded edition of their latest album will be released in Australia in the middle of next month.
As revealed last week, 'Progressed' is a two disc edition of the band's recent album 'Progress'. It contains the original LP and a second disc of eight new songs including the latest single 'Love Love', which was serviced to radio late yesterday.
'Progressed' is set for release in Australia on Friday June 17.

They couldn't just wait until they had 2 or 3 more songs and release a new stand-alone album?

I really dont understand the thinking behind this recent focus of repackaging.

I own 'Progress', like the new song 'LoveLove' (which is in a similar style to the album).

But... do they not think the new songs can stand on their own? I will still try to download 'free' the new album to fully listen to it before deciding whether the new songs merit purchasing, just as I would a new album. If there is a premium price point to simply re-acquire the majority of an album I already legimately purchased then it is merely a disincentive. If it costs no more than I originally paid then the record companies are penalising fans and those who did appreciate the album; instead rewarding people for delaying making any purchases. Promoting lethagy in purchasing seems rather stupid.

Has any of these artists (Lady Gaga, Kesha, TakeThat, etc) ever mentioned their reasoning behind this sort of marketing?
