VILLAGE PEOPLE : Y.M.C.A.
Weddings, parties, 21sts, discos, nightclubs... Doesn't matter how young or how old, black, white, straight, gay or in between, there's one track that is guaranteed to get people racing for the dancefloor and singing along wildly - Village People's timeless 1978 anthem 'Y.M.C.A'.
A No.1 hit here in Australia at the end of '78 and early '79, the track also topped the charts in the UK and throughout Europe, but peaked at No.2 in the United States.
The clip is desperately basic compared to today's epics - with the members of the band dancing in formation against such inventive backgrounds as... the street. And the park. And the wharf. But who cares right? In the end, it's all about the music - and this is just one big, bold, brassy bundle of unashamed pop campery.
