LEONA LEWIS : Collide

Finally the gang looking after Leona Lewis' Youtube/Vevo account have decided that after the clip being online for a couple of days but being region restricted, us Aussies can now finally see the official video too.
It's totally easy to see the appeal behind this song - it's fresh, danceable and likeable, lyrically deals with the most celebrated emotion in the world (love) and gives the former UK X Factor diva the chance to test out her vocals in a slightly different genre.
Leona's headed down to the beach for the video, where her auburn locks get to absorb some of the sun's goodness. She looks (and sounds) a million dollars.

NEWS WRAP

• She's conquered the world with that amazing voice and her latest album '21', so when Adele releases a new single to local media, you can pretty much guarantee it's going to get some chart action. 'Set Fire To The Rain' made it into the 'Most Added' list in mid-July, but it'll no doubt be among the top ten additions again next Monday.
• Plenty of other new tracks out to radio this week too, with Wynter Gordon's 'Buy My Love', Cold Chisel's 'All For You', Faker's 'Back When Solvents' and Nero's 'Promises' among those serviced.
• Seems like us Aussies aren't the only ones who love us a bit of Sony signing Gypsy & The Cat, with the band's album 'Gilgamesh' debuting at No.10 on the iTunes chart in Germany. The band also released a German physical single of their hit 'Jona Vark'.
• It's been a heck of a long time coming, has been delayed numerous times, but Joss Stone fans will finally be able to get their hands on a best-of late next month. The name of the album has been changed from 'Super Duper Hits' to 'The Best of Joss Stone : 2003-2009' and will hit the shelves on Friday September 30.
• Salt N Pepa have added a second show in Sydney to their forthcoming tour schedule. They'll now also play a second date at the Enmore Theatre - on Friday November 25, tickets for which are on sale now.
• Speaking of second Sydney shows, Boy & Bear have added another show in the harbour city on their forthcoming 'Moonfire' tour. They'll also play a second date at the Enmore Theatre - on Sunday November 06 - after their first show (the previous night) sold out. Tickets are on sale now.
• Sneaky Sound System has been announced as the first addition to the line-up for this year's inaugural Mission To Launch festival in Canberra. The new year's eve event will take place in Weston Park, with a full line-up to be announced mid-way through next month. Tickets are on sale on Thursday September 29.
• Voting is now underway in the 25th annual ARIA Awards. People in the music industry from across the country are currently voting in all categories of the awards and have to be to be all wrapped up by 6pm on Friday.
• US rapper Xzibit will return to Australia in late November for a series of live performances across the country. He'll kick things off in Newcastle on November 24, wrapping things up on the Gold Coast on December 11. Most cities get a gig, with tickets on sale tomorrow. Click HERE for all the dates.
• Former X Factor UK star Olly Murs has debuted in the No.1 position on the British singles chart with his latest track 'Heart Skips A Beat'. The summery track managed to hold off stiff competition from Calvin Harris' new single 'Feels So Close', which debuted at No.2. Will Young's new single 'Jealousy' debuted at No.5, with Noel Gallagher's 'The Death Of You And Me' managing a No.15 placing.
• In what was a pretty good week for Will Young all up, he celebrated the tenth anniversary of his auditioning for Pop Idol with another No.1 album - this time for 'Echoes'. The album snatched top spot above former X Factor star Joe McElderry's new covers album 'Classic', which debuted at No.2. Wretch 32's 'Black And White' came in at No.4, Barbra Streisand's 'What Matters Most' debuted at No.7 and Hard Fi's 'Killer Sounds' debuted at No.9.

CRAIG HAS THE REMADY

After conquering Europe, achieving top ten success in France and being snapped up for release in the Northern Hemisphere summer for both Germany and the US, now the team at Onelove has brought the latest Craig David collaboration to Australia to heat up our airwaves.
'Do It On My Own' was serviced to radio locally this week and it's easy to see why Aussie media ought to lap it up.
Swiss producer Remady lays down the electro beats for this club/dance track, adding some smooth vocals and a guest appearance from Mr David, who we last heard from during his 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered' project.
'Do It On My Own' is slated to hit digital retail here on Friday September 16.

DEMPSEY ADDS DATES

Seems like Australia's love affair with Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey hasn't waned any since he's been living it up playing dates overseas. His forthcoming headline shows in both Sydney and Melbourne have now sold out, prompting him to add a few extra dates to the schedule to satiate his rabid fans.
A second Sydney show is 'go' at the Annandale, while Brisbane and Perth won't miss out, with shows added in both cities.
Paul will give punters plenty of classic Something For Kate numbers and a little glimpse into the future with exclusive previews of tracks from the forthcoming new Something For Kate project, due in 2012.
Tickets for the three new shows are on sale on Thursday.

JESSIE J JUGGERNAUT CONTINUES

A number of people have questioned us as to whether we'd got the No.1 Most Added track to Aussie radio correct this week - Jessie J's latest single 'Domino'.
The answer is 100% yes - we're not into publishing rumours here at auspOp. 'Domino', produced by Dr.Luke, is serving as the new single here in Australia, despite the fact that the track didn't appear on her debut album 'Who You Are'. It will also reportedly serve as the second single in the United States.
The British singer has experienced decent success here in Australia, with the album going gold, the single 'Price Tag' hitting an amazing four times platinum (over 280,000 copies) and its follow-up 'Nobody's Perfect' hitting platinum (70,000 copies).
'Domino' is set to be released digitally this Friday.

HAYES RELEASES CONFIRMED

Must be the day for the confirmation of some big release albums. So with the new Vanessa Amorosi and Shannon Noll album release dates locked in this afternoon, the other big one we're patiently (and excitedly) counting down for is 'Secret Codes & Battleships' - the new album from Darren Hayes.
Featuring lead single 'Talk Talk Talk', hot new UK single 'Black Out The Sun' and the sublime new Aussie single 'Bloodstained Heart', the album has been revealed for release in Australia on Friday October 21.
It will come in both standard and deluxe collectors editions.
In the meantime, fans wanting to get their mitts on 'Bloodstained Heart' will need to wait until Monday September 05 when the single will get its digital release.

VMA WINNERS

British singer Adele (pictured) was one of two females who shared most of the spoils at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, held in Los Angeles this morning Australian time.
The singer, who's been busy tearing up charts around the world with her hit singles 'Rolling In The Deep' and 'Someone Like You', along with her smash album '21', also took to the stage for a live performance of 'Someone Like You' with just vocal and a piano, leaving the audience spellbound.
Adele picked up three awards for the night (Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing), while Katy Perry picked up the gongs for the coveted Video Of The Year, Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects.
Lady Gaga's male alter-ego Jo Calderone hit the stage to perform her latest single 'You And I' and the stars came together to honour Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
But surely the night belonged to Beyonce, who revealed a baby bump to the excitable crowd.
If you missed this morning's ceremony live, don't fear - MTV has repeats of the show clicking through all week, with another set to screen at 9 o'clock tonight.
It'll repeat again tomorrow at 9am, 2pm and 5pm, on Wednesday at 11am and 10pm, Thursday at 10:30am and 7:30pm, Saturday at 8:30pm and Sunday at 12am, all on MTV Channel 124.

V RELEASE CONFIRMED

We brought you your first look at the cover image for Vanessa Amorosi's new single 'Amazing' yesterday (pictured), but more news for Vanessa Amorosi fans today is that the release date of her forthcoming new album has been confirmed.
The album, entitled 'V', is the singer's fifth and features both 'Amazing' and its predecessor 'Gossip', along with a collection of brand new tunes.
Universal has today confirmed that the album will be released in Australia on Friday October 28.

SHANNON'S ALBUM IS GO

Universal Music's latest release schedule has revealed the title and release date for the brand new album for former Idol star Shannon Noll (pictured).
The album is called 'A Million Suns' and the campaign for the new album kicked off recently with the release of his new single 'Switch Me On'.
The track finally made it into the ARIA charts this week, debuting at No.45 on the singles chart. As of last week, it was the 21st most played track on Australian radio.
'A Million Suns' is due for release on Friday October 14.

NICKI MINAJ FTG. RIHANNA - Fly

From the outset when little Ms Nicki with the massive hair drives up to a plane crash in her shiny new convertible and Rihanna's vocals begin, we start to wonder whether or not guest the Barbadian pop goddess will make an appearance in the clip.
We needn't have worried. What's more, she looks amazing. Then Minaj appears on the plane's charred fuselage with a pink wig and a ghostly grey dress, before the twosome embark on more costume changes.
Nicki goes all crime fighter in yet another outfit and then some flowers start to bloom. We don't know what it all means (no doubt something to do with flying, given the name of the song), but it looks like it cost a hell of a lot of money to put together.

GAGA BTW USB

auspOp reader Anthony is an excitable little monster, shooting us through an email with the image of the forthcoming 'Born This Way' USB by Lady Gaga.
This is the third USB device released by the pop superstar, following on from those popped out for her previous two albums and as with those, this one will be packed with delicious digital goodies.
There are the album tracks, obviously, but there are also remixes, music videos and a selection of images from photoshoots and video sets.
According to Universal's latest release schedule, the 'Born This Way' USB is set for Aussie release on Friday September 30.

101 HITS THE CLUBS

Those fine folk behind EMI's successful and value-packed '101 Hits' compilations have been at it again - this time putting together a 101 track homage to the dancefloors of the nation.
There are so many amazing club bangers from across the past ten years or more - and some of the biggest names in dance from across the globe; Armand Van Helden, Eric Prydz, Freemasons, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Ian Van Dahl, Faithless, Tiesto, Joey Negro and Calvin Harris all feature among the hits, along with anthems such as 'Lola's Theme', 'Red Alert', 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit', 'Born Slippy', 'Shiny Disco Balls' and 'Ride On Time'.
(Full tracklisting in the comments section of this post below).
'101 Club Classics' is set to hit the stores on Friday September 30.

VOLTAIRE TWINS : Animalia

Those with a slightly squeamish disposition may want to take a wide berth with the brand new video for Perth duo Voltaire Twins.
Essentially, it all revolves around the work of a taxidermist whose latest 'clients' are a pair of West Australian musicians who, it has to be said, still look relatively fresh. We'll make no cutting remarks (boom-tish) - best save that one for the taxidermist himself, but even though it looks like chicken breast he's carving into, you can't help but wince slightly and get tempted to turn away, or worse still, find the nearest vessel.
So absorbed is he in his work that he fails to see that his two subjects on the slab are singing along to the very catchy, very cool tune.
Want to know something even more brilliant!? The band has also decided that by giving them a little 'like' on Facebook, you'll also get to download the track (and all the remixes too) absolutely free! So not only are Jaymes and Tegan talented, artistic and attractive, but they're damned generous too. Get on board, kids.

MISHA HITS THE X

While we patiently await the start of our own version of X Factor, the British public is already getting a taste of some world class talent.
Take 19 year old Misha Bryan from Manchester for example.
She blew the judges and the audience away with a powerhouse vocal performance, covering Aretha Franklin's classic 'R.E.S.P.E.C.T.' with a super-cool confidence and effortlessness.
We can only hope that Australia's got the vocal talent to match this kind of performance, but with embedding disabled on this year's UK X Factor clips, you'll have to catch a sneaky watch HERE.

VANESSA'S AMAZING

Look out! Hot cover alert!
Universal Music has this afternoon serviced the brand new Vanessa Amorosi single 'Amazing' to Australian radio.
The follow-up to 'Gossip', 'Amazing' will certainly find a home on radio stations across the country before its digital retail release on Friday September 09.
The track opens with Vanessa close to mic and purring effortlessly. 'Amazing' is a mid-tempo inspirational number that builds across the three and a half minutes - and there's even a key change for the pop nuts.
Although no release date has been revealed from the album it's coming from (that'd be 'V'), Universal hints that it will be out in October.

LOOKBACK

GEORGE MICHAEL : Outside

Boy didn't this cause a stir when it was released 13 years ago! Fresh from his arrest for being caught "in a lewd act" in a public restroom in Hollywood and his subsequent coming out, George Michael hit back the in the best way possible - by totally taking the piss out of the entire situation in his latest music video.
He suggests in the song and the clip that people do indeed love having sex in public places and insinuated that the LA police department have nothing better to do with their time than arrest people for doing so.
Of course, the story is told via the hilarious dance sequence in the mensroom, plenty of security cam vision catching (pixellated) people in all manner of different sexual situations - and that very poignant message right at the very end.

A PAIR OF ONES? GOTYE!

Festivities will be continuing long into the weekend as Gotye celebrates not only the continuing reign of his No.1 single 'Somebody That I Used To Know', but the fact that he can now add an album to his collection of hits with 'Making Mirrors' debuting at No.1 on tonight's official ARIA charts.
It's the Melbourne based performer's first ever No.1 album.
This week marks the first time since Silverchair back in 2007 that an Australian artist has held the No.1 singles and albums chart at the same time.
ARIA reports that 'Making Mirrors' is also the first album this year to sell more than 35,000 copies in its first week - it's already a gold certified smash, with greater accreditations sure to come.
Meantime, the single 'Somebody That I Used To Know' also continues to shine, this week enjoying a 20% sales growth against last week's figure. And though ARIA don't like to publish any specific numbers, they've reported that 'Somebody That I Used To Know' has this week delivered "the highest weekly sales tally since Anthony Callea’s “The Prayer” reached its peak in the week of Christmas 2004." Astonishing results all 'round.
Also debuting this week are Jack Vidgen's 'Yes I Am' album (new in at No.3) and Josh Pyke's 'Only Sparrows' in at No.4, meaning that 60% of the top five is Australian and the other 40% is Adele.
For all the guff Aussie chart-wise, head over to www.ariacharts.com.au from 6:30pm AEST.

LANE TOUR & ALBUM

Sydney's Lanie Lane, who recently signed to local label Ivy League, will release her debut album 'To The Horses' in October. The eleven tracker was recorded and mixed in just four days at Sydney's Ripple Studios and is set to showcase the singer's much lauded style that blends rock and roll with blues and a splash of old school soul.
The album will drop on October 14 and just days after, she'll hit the road for a series of live dates in order to say 'hi' to her most insatiable fans, with shows kicking off in Adelaide on Thursday October 20. Tickets for all shows are on sale on Monday.

October 20 : Adelaide (Jive Bar)
October 21 : Melbourne (Northcote Social Club)
October 22 : Perth (The Bird)
October 23 : Fremantle (Mojo's)
October 27 : Brisbane (Old Museum)
October 29 : Milton (Kidgeree Music Festival)
October 29 : Canberra (Stonefest)
November 04 : Sydney (The Vanguard)

BEYONCE : 1+1

After spending the better part of a king's ransom on the video clip for 'Run The World (Girls)', Queen B has stripped things right back down again for the official video for '1+1', with some subtle lighting effects, a cascade of water, some costume changes, three cups of glitter and a few tears.
The thing we like about about it is that the simple imagery of the clip really allows the song to shine in its own right - and shine it does, strong, powerful, emotional, with plenty of gravel in B's vocal throughout the track.
Given how slow it is, it'll be a small miracle if commercial radio here touches it with a bargepole, but '1+1' could add up to just the ticket for the US market.

SATURDAY NEWS WRAP #65

• Looks like the reunion of British pop outfit Steps is on in earnest. They've released the first official image of the band since they went their separate ways ten years ago (pictured) and have set up both a FACEBOOK PAGE and OFFICIAL WEBSITE.
• A couple of new bits and pieces have appeared on the Sony Music release schedule this week - there's a new single from X Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte called 'All We Have', a new single from last year's X Factor winner Altiyan Childs called 'Ordinary Man' and a new Stan Walker single (with Static Revenger) called 'Light It Up'.
• Tennessee-based outfit Hot Chelle Rae has been announced as the support act for next year's Taylor Swift tour. They'll play on all dates, with the Aussie leg kicking off in Perth on Friday March 02.
• Beyonce is the latest performer to be added to the entertainment line-up of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. Also announced is a special tribute to Amy Winehouse by legendary performer Tony Bennett and a 'black' carpet special with Selena Gomez as special guest reporter. The VMAs hit MTV live on Monday morning (AEST) at 10am.
• Joe Jonas has revealed the official cover image (above) for his forthcoming album 'Fastlife'. The new LP features lead track 'See No More' and second single 'Just In Love' and will drop at Australian retail on Friday October 14.
• British singer Cosmo Jarvis is no stranger to controversy - his videos for songs 'Gay Pirates' and 'Sure As Hell Not Jesus' stirred up plenty of emotion across the world. The singer has announced that he'll play two gigs in Australia in October - one at Sydney's Goodgod Small Club on October 12 and one at Melbourne's East Brunswick Club on October 13. His album 'Is The World Strange Or Am I Strange?' will be released locally on Friday September 30.
• Tex Perkins has announced a double barrel line-up for two shows coming up in October. He'll take the stage with both his bands - The Dark Horses and The Band Of Gold for a concert with a difference, split into two very different halves. Catch the show at the Factory Theatre in Sydney on October 13 and the National Theatre in Melbourne on October 15.
• We were wondering when there'd be a bit of local love and action for Adelaide duo Lovers Electric. Eden and David's new album 'Impossible Dreams' has already been released over in Germany (where they're currently residing), but news has now come through that Australia will also soon see its release. The lead single 'Beating Like A Drum' will get a digital release here on Friday (September 02) and the album is due to drop locally on Friday September 30.
• African vocal collective Ladysmith Black Mambazo will release their brand new album 'Songs From A Zulu Farm' (pictured) on Friday September 14. Perfect timing too, given the band will be in Australia in late October to play a series of shows - one each in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra. Details HERE.
• The most played song on Australian radio this week is Maroon 5's latest track with Christina Aguilera, 'Move Like Jagger'. The highest placed Aussie on the list is Jessica Mauboy, who's at No.3 with her latest single 'Inescapable'.
• 'Last Friday Night' is going on for an eternity over in the US, where Katy Perry remains at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Lil' Wayne's new single with Drake 'She Will' debuts impressively at No.3, with Rihanna's latest single 'Cheers (Drink To That)' making it into the top 20 for the first time - at No.17.
• On the US album chart, Jay Z and Kanye West are still watching that throne from the summit of the Billboard 200, reigning over all comers including debuts from Eli Young Band (No.6), Blue October (No.8) and Breaking Benjamin (No.22).
• And Kylie Minogue has scored herself yet another US club No.1 - with 'Put Your Hands Up' from her album 'Aphrodite'.

INCOMING : Ryan Adams

Sony Music has confirmed the forthcoming local release of the new Ryan Adams album 'Ashes & Fire' (pictured).
The LP is his first for new label Sony and was recorded in Los Angeles. It features eleven new recordings, a selection of which feature jazz chanteuse Norah Jones on backing vocal duty.
Mike Smith, the managing director of Columbia Records in the UK said in a statement, "Ryan to me is in the lineage of the very greatest artists that have worked with Columbia and I am thrilled to be releasing what is undeniably his finest album in ten years."
'Ashes & Fire' will be released in Australia via Sony Music on Friday October 07.

Friday, August 26, 2011

DARREN HAYES : Black Out The Sun

Well it seems that Australia will be missing out on 'Black Out The Sun' as the second single from Darren Hayes' forthcoming album 'Secret Codes & Battleships' - that honour will go to 'Bloodstained Heart', the track currently being used on the promos for Channel 7's X Factor.
But that doesn't mean that we can't thoroughly enjoy watching and reporting on the video for the new tune, which will be digitally released in the UK in early October with orchestral and extended versions and even a 7th Heaven remix available on the British digital bundle.
To say the single version is epic is an understatement - it's stabs of strings to open promise great things, and we're happy to say that promise is not broken. 'Black Out The Sun' is dark and dramatic, suspenseful and stirring and allows Mister Hayes the opportunity to let his sublime falsetto out of the box.
Impassioned and epic. There's no getting around it - the guy's a superstar.

RIHANNA : Cheers (Drink To That)

As the 'Loud' project comes towards its natural conclusion, with the promise of new Ri-Ri material not far away, we're treated to the obligatory on-the-road footage for the official clip to final single 'Cheers (Drink To That)'.
That's not to say it isn't entertaining. Right from the get go, with the crowd screaming for more, it's a journey that's exciting, full of adventure, colour and obvious good times. It's also good to be able to get to see the two very different sides of Rihanna's personality at play - the superstar performer, adored by millions across the globe and incredibly at ease on stage and the candid glimpses of the private Rihanna who seems incredibly grounded.

CHISEL ADDS NEWCASTLE, FREE DOWNLOAD

Seems like what was going to be a quiet little tour for Jimmy Barnes and the rest of the Cold Chisel boys has turned into an unprecedented smash, with concerts selling out across the country. Further dates have been added in pretty much every major centre across the country, but the last show to be added to the 2011 tour is an extra date in Newcastle (on December 11), tickets for which are on sale on Friday September 02.
There's also been a change of venue on the Sunshine Coast - from Stockland Park to the Sunshine Coast Stadium.
In further Chisel news, the band's first new studio recording in 13 years will hit radio on Monday. It's called 'All For You' and it's lifted from a forthcoming fan-voted best-of set. Fans can vote on the tracklisting for the album on the band's OFFICIAL WEBSITE from Monday - and will be treated to a free download of the new song as a thankyou.

News through today from Coppel is that they've added even more shows to the tour - a second and final Perth date, third and final Brisbane date and a fourth and final date in Melbourne.

KIMBRA : Good Intent

The video clip for the latest Kimbra single 'Good Intent' looks like it could have been ripped straight from a night scene from the latest Underbelly series. All red lights, '30s props, cobbled streets and bejewelled gloves.
Kimbra's dressed in three equally spectacular outfits here - and we learn why towards the end of the clip, when the three Kimbras take to the stage to perform a sultry dance routine in the hope of alluring three chaps who'd not moments ago been dancing spectacularly out in the alley.
Meantime, back in the hall, it's an all-on-the-floor dance-off. Super sexy and super cool.

OK GO : The Muppet Show Theme

You know there's danger afoot when the boys from OK Go, renowned for their incredible video clip masterpieces, team up with The Muppets for a reworking of the legendary theme song.
And you know there's even greater danger afoot when there's a video for said track.
So anticipated was this OK Go release that at last count, it had been viewed more than 1.3 million times in just a couple of days. Astonishing. There's even a very clever recreation of their famous treadmill sequence which, under the controls of Dr Bunsen Honeydew and his sidekick Beaker, just HAS to end badly.
It's a heck of a lot of fun - and proof that the Muppets (and the boys from OK Go) can still make us laugh after all these years.

REBECCA & FIONA : Hard

This little nugget of Swedish pop goodness popped into our inbox just yesterday - a new single and video from a duo called Rebecca & Fiona. Spookily, the girls' names happen to be Rebecca and Fiona. What ARE the chances!? They're both DJs, producers, music stars and television presenters in Sweden where their debut single 'Luminary Ones' set them on the path to superstardom last year. Second single 'Bullets' hit the top ten in their homeland earlier this year.
There's something a little bit cool about 'Hard'. It's not your normal run-of-the-mill pop music. Kinda edgy, kinda Pet Shop Boys. There's nary a vocal to be found in the first 50 seconds of the track (truth be told, there's hardly any anywhere in the track, but that doesn't prevent it from being something altogether listenable, fresh and most definitely likeable.

GIVEAWAY

French DJ David Guetta sure has found his niche over the past couple of years - radio hits with plenty of superstar artists layering their vocals over the top of his top ten beats.
His new album 'Nothing But The Beat', released today, is already a smash, thanks to the singles released from it already. First single 'Where Them Girls At' a top ten platinum selling smash, second single 'Little Bad Girl' a gold selling top 20 hit, promotional single 'Titanium' featuring Sia into the top ten this week and the new promo single 'Night Of Your Life' (with Jennifer Hudson on vocal duty) into the iTunes top 15 after just days.
'Nothing But The Beat' also features a bonus disc full of instrumentals.
It's going to be a mammoth album, there's no denying. With thanks to the fine folk at EMI, we've lucky enough to have been given five copies of the album to give away to you! So what are you waiting for? Best get entering!

MEL IN 7TH HEAVEN

Melanie C! If you keep going like this, young lady - getting the ilk of 7th Heaven to remix your latest single - you may very well discover yourself with another chart hit on your hands.
Yes, British production duo (Masters Dixon and Wetson), who've previously worked with the likes of Kylie, The Saturdays, Whitney, Cheryl Cole, Sugababes etc) have triumphed again, turning Mel's latest single 'Think About It' from a pretty good pop track into something altogether glittery, with its sights set firmly on the dancefloor.
Get those hands in the air, pop kids - this ought to be on your summer radar. Nova Network!! Are you listening to this!?
Aussie iTunes single and remix bundle releases on September 04 (along with her album 'The Sea').

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE : What The Water Gave Me

While it's difficult to imaging the 2Days of the world plastering this track all over their playlists, there's something altogether dark and alluring about the new single (and accompanying video) from British outfit Florence & The Machine.
'What The Water Gave Me' is the first taster of Ms Welch and co's forthcoming, as yet untitled album, due in November.
It's an arresting piece of music, with echoed instrumentation and shrieks of string that draw the listener's interest, at the same time slowly hypnotising them with that voice and (in the video) Flo's flowing red mane.
Florence & The Machine got plenty of chart love in Australia with their previous album 'Lungs' - and thought a little away from the mainstream, there's no reason that success can't be replicated with album No.2.

RAGGAMUFFIN RIDES THE OCEAN WAVE

There have already been one big name announced for the 2012 Raggamuffin Festival, which kicks off in Perth on January 21. That was the unmistakable voice of UB40, Mister Ali Campbell.
But McManus Entertainment has today announced the second line-up of performers who'll take to the stage as part of the annual (and much celebrated) reggae festival.
Topping the bill of the new additions is legendary performer Billy Ocean, whose hits are many across the past four decades - 'Love Really Hurts Without You', 'Get Outta My Dreams; Get Into My Car' and 'When The Going Gets Tough'.
He'll be joined by current chart sensation and son of Maxi, Marvin Priest, San Diego outfit Big Mountain (who had a hit with 'Baby I Love Your Way' back in the mid '90s), British-based singer Junior Marvin and Nkulee Dube.
Tickets for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are on sale on Wednesday September 07.

January 21 : Perth (Venue TBA)
January 22 : Melbourne (Sidney Myer Music Bowl)
January 25 : Sydney (North Sydney Oval)
January 26 : Brisbane (Riverstage)

THE WAITS IS OVER

After inadvertently letting the cat out of the bag when it came to the name and instore date of Tom Waits' new album a few weeks ago, we can now officially confirm that the new LP 'Bad As Me' will indeed be released in Australia on Friday October 21.
Fan forums for the US singer songwriter lit up across the world when we initially included the October 21 release date in our schedule a few weeks back.
The new album will come in standard 13 track edition and a deluxe edition containing three additional songs, along with a 40 page book of lyrics and photos. A vinyl LP will also be released.

SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM BREAKS COVER

The second (very pop) single 'Big' from the album is now at radio and available digitally and the video for it (shot in Las Vegas) will premiere very soon.

STEPS BACK IN TIME

Australia and British pop quintet Steps always had a good relationship - after all, we Aussies gave the band their very first global No.1 single with the country-tinged '5, 6, 7, 8' all the way back in 1997.
Hits like 'Last Thing On My Mind', 'One For Sorrow' and 'Tragedy' were to follow, but after a five year flurry of fun, frivolity, super-bright outfits and dance moves, the fivesome went their separate ways.
Buoyed by the success of the Take That reunion after ten years, the five members of Steps will get together later this year for a reunion and a reality TV show documenting the way the band and the relationships within it broke down, leading to Steps' ultimate demise.
To correspond with the doco, Sony UK will release a 20 track 'Ultimate' collection later in the year. It contains all the hits the made them famous, including their 13 consecutive top five UK hits.
Depending on how the reunion is received, there may be a tour and new material. You have been warned.
